Welcome to the Millstone Inn

Referred to by the original property owners as “The Sugar Shack,” the old sugar camp was constructed in 1937. Maple syrup was produced on the farm for many years. Sap was harvested from the beautiful sugar maples in the spring and boiled into maple syrup with the evaporators. A successful season could produce up to 60 gallons. Farmworkers or family members would spend days gathering at the small camp in the woods to oversee the boiling sap. Once completed, the syrup was bottled and shared with family, friends, and neighbors.

The worn equipment has been removed, but the memories remain. The current owners restored the dilapidated sugar camp into a luxurious yet cozy cabin for two. Tucked into the wooded area next to the historic covered bridge, the cabin is just a short walk from The River House. Walls of windows offer stunning views of the ponds, bridge, and St. Joseph River from the living room. Antique millstones found in the ground during renovation now flank the front entrance, hence its new name, “The Millstone Inn.” Whether you prefer wandering the nearby walking trails or snuggling up by the wood-burning fireplace, the Millstone Inn offers a secluded, picturesque retreat.

Reviews

The Millstone is simply a unique experience than I have ever had, and it is worth investing in the experience once in a while. We plan on revisiting for special celebrations in our marriage. It is a gem of southwestern Michigan. The actual cabin is great, but the surroundings just make it that much better.
